How Blushington Is Growing Without Losing What Made It Special

How Blushington Is Growing Without Losing What Made It Special

Fifteen years ago, Blushington began with a family celebration and a question.

Our younger sister’s Bat Mitzvah was approaching, and we wanted one place where our family could get ready together. We imagined an experience that felt joyful, welcoming and age-appropriate—a destination that combined beautiful artistry with the warmth of genuine hospitality.

That place did not exist. So we created it.

Today, Blushington has grown from a single makeup lounge in West Hollywood into a beauty destination offering blowouts, makeup, skincare, brow and lash services, beauty education and curated products. We now welcome guests in New York City, Boca Raton and Houston, with a growing franchise pipeline designed to bring the Blushington experience to more communities across America.

Our co-founder Nicki Maron recently spoke with CO— by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce about that journey: how Blushington is scaling, why hospitality remains our foundation and what it means to grow a brand without losing the feeling that made people love it in the first place.

We Never Wanted to Build Just Another Salon

From the beginning, our purpose was larger than a menu of beauty services.

Blushington was created to solve the practical problem of getting ready—without losing the emotion of it. We wanted guests to be able to receive professional blowouts, makeup and skincare under one roof, while feeling cared for from the moment they arrived.

That distinction matters. A service can be beautifully executed and still feel transactional. Hospitality turns an appointment into an experience. It is remembering how a guest likes her hair, asking where she is going and noticing when she needs guidance—or simply a quiet hour to herself.

Our Artists bring the expertise. Hospitality brings the heart.

Beauty Should Feel Inclusive, Not Intimidating

There has never been one Blushington look, because there is no single definition of beauty.

Our guests span generations, skin tones, hair textures, backgrounds and levels of beauty experience. Some know the exact lip color they want before sitting down. Others arrive unsure of where to begin. Both should feel equally welcome.

This is why our approach starts with a conversation. Our Artists listen, explain and personalize. The goal is not to turn every guest into the same version of “glam.” It is to understand how she wants to feel and create a look that helps her recognize the most confident version of herself.

As beauty industry expert Jeffrey Ten told the U.S. Chamber, the combination of blowouts, makeup and skincare is distinctive—and Blushington’s inclusive positioning is where the industry needs to go.

We could not agree more.

Designed to Feel Like a Warm Hug

As we prepared Blushington for its next chapter, we thought carefully about how a physical space communicates care.

Our newest lounges honor the brand’s California heritage while drawing inspiration from classic European beauty boutiques and the vanities our mothers and grandmothers sat before. They are polished but comfortable, elevated but never imposing.

We have described the feeling as “a warm hug—California cool with a European touch.”

That warmth extends to the way products are presented. Beauty shopping can become overwhelming quickly. At Blushington, the assortment is curated to invite discovery rather than create confusion. Guests can learn from professional Artists, experience products during a service and bring home something they feel confident using on their own.

Our First Franchise Owners Began as Guests

Perhaps the most meaningful part of Blushington’s franchise growth is that our first franchise owners already understood the brand from the client’s chair.

They were longtime guests who believed in the experience and saw an opportunity to bring it to their own communities. Courtney Freels, the owner of Blushington River Oaks in Houston, had encouraged us to franchise for years before ultimately opening a location in her hometown.

There is something deeply powerful about that evolution: a guest becomes an advocate, an advocate becomes an owner and an owner creates opportunities for Artists, team members and families in a new market.

Franchising allows us to grow with local entrepreneurs who understand the people and rhythms of their cities. They bring relationships, market knowledge and their own leadership style. We bring an established brand, a differentiated service model and the Blushington Way—techniques, standards and hospitality practices refined through years of experience.

Growing Businesses and Generational Opportunity

We believe business ownership can change the trajectory of a family.

Building Blushington has certainly changed ours. As a family-run company, we understand the pride, responsibility and long-term possibility that come with creating something of your own. Expanding through franchising gives us the opportunity to help other entrepreneurs build businesses, develop teams and create generational wealth for their families.

The right Blushington owner does not need to come from the beauty industry. Experience in hospitality, operations, retail, wellness, real estate or team leadership can translate beautifully. What matters most is the instinct to care for people, the ability to inspire a team and the desire to become part of a local community.

Convenience Creates Loyalty—Care Creates Connection

Modern guests want high-quality beauty services that fit into full lives. They do not want to travel to three different destinations for hair, makeup and skincare or reserve professional artistry only for weddings and galas.

Blushington makes beauty easier. A guest can book a blowout before a meeting, add makeup for dinner, schedule a quick skincare treatment or take a class that builds confidence at home. Memberships and service series make those routines even more convenient.

But convenience alone is easy to copy. The connection is what lasts.

It is the Artist who remembers an important presentation. The owner who supports a neighborhood organization. The lounge where mothers and daughters begin a tradition. The team that celebrates a guest’s engagement, promotion, birthday or new beginning.

Those moments are not separate from our growth strategy. They are the reason it works.

What Comes Next for Blushington

We are ambitious about the future. Our goal is to put a Blushington in every city in America.

We also know that the number of locations will never be the only measure of success. Growth matters when each new lounge preserves the experience that began this company: thoughtful artistry, genuine hospitality and beauty that welcomes people in.

Every city will bring its own personality. Every owner will build local relationships. Every Artist will contribute talent and perspective. Yet the promise must remain familiar: you can arrive as you are, feel cared for while you are with us and leave feeling beautifully, confidently yourself.

That is the Blushington Way. It began with one family searching for a better way to get ready together. Fifteen years later, we are honored to share it with families and communities across the country.
